Dispatch & Customer Service Associate

The Dispatch & Customer Service performs all daily dispatching services for Recycling Alternative, including responding to customer calls, managing routes, and supporting our driving staff.

This position is responsible for managing and optimizing all daily routing, tracking driver time, updating and implementing any changes to ensure optimal customer service and logistical efficiencies. The successful Associate is a key member or our team, possessing the experience and initiative to further develop this role and make it their own, able to work as a positive team player, while remaining respectful of the policies and procedures already in place.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to customer inquiries, calls, concerns in a timely manner to ensure excellent customer service and up to date information for clients in Vancouver and Calgary
  • Schedule and dispatch all daily pick-ups for company fleet using our current software system
  • Daily preparation of routes and supplies for the driving staff
  • Ensure maximum efficiency and optimized routing times for drivers
  • Oversee routing for Vancouver and Calgary operations
  • Maintain contact with driving team to update routes in real time throughout the day
  • Manage electronics and systems for driver communications
  • Enter, maintain and reconcile data throughout the month in preparation for monthly billing
  • Ensure all information related to dispatch and logistics is correct and up to date in our system
  • Maintain and organize customer and driver supplies
  • Provide support for driver training, for new staff and on-going
  • Work with operations team to problem solve and plan for changes such as customer service changes, equipment breakdown, staff & stat holidays, etc. as they impact daily dispatching schedules
  • Regular reporting and communication with RA team

Requirements and Experience:

  • Experience working in transportation environment and knowledge of the industry
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of Vancouver/Lower Mainland area
  • Detail oriented, able to meet deadlines and work under pressure ensuring quality of work
  • Goal oriented and demonstrates initiative to implement and deliver on projects
  • Strong ability to multi-task, analyze and problem solve
  • Computer skills and data entry
  • Strong interpersonal skills with high degree of diplomacy, discretion, and judgement
  • Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanour
  • Knowledge and experience in recycling industry/sector an asset
  • Passion for sustainability and recycling!

Operations Manager

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the daily operations at Recycling Alternative, leading and supervising operational staff (dispatch, driver and warehouse teams), as well as participating with the accounting/administration departments and directors and implement operational budgets. The Operations Manager reports to the company directors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing efficient and optimized operational processes related to our recycling collections, materials handling and processing in our warehouse sorting, and the shipping and receiving of processed materials.

By working closely with the directors, office and accounting departments, this position contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices to improve efficiencies and ensure a high standard of staff engagement and operations at Recycling Alternative.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of Recycling Alternative’s daily operations (fleet/drivers and warehouse/materials processing)
  • Hire and manage operations staff (dispatch, driver and warehouse teams)
  • Build and provide leadership to operations team
  • Work with customer service and administration to address any service issues that require operational attention
  • Direct weekly staff meetings and on-going staff training
  • Work with and maintain relationships with Recycling Alternative vendors and processors
  • Adhere to operational budgets
  • Participate on workplace Health and Safety Committee; implement safety policies and documentation required for Worksafe

Requirements and Experience:

  • Strong leadership qualities with experience managing and mentoring operations staff
  • Able to communicate professionally and respectfully with co-workers
  • Experience implementing training programs, company policies and health and safety procedures
  • Experience in project management
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively create, implement and provide oversight to project plans
  • Strong ability to assess changing operational circumstances and prioritize tasks to adapt floor operation, staff assignments to meet daily requirements
  • Experience in shipping and receiving
  • Experience tracking and reporting materials flow
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Knowledge and experience in the recycling sector an asset, including knowledge of materials and quality control management
  • Occupational Health and Safety committee experience, safety conscious at all times
  • Experience in operations related administration such as supply inventory, purchase ordering, tracking and reporting productivity and materials flow
  • Post secondary education and/or 2-5 years’ experience in fields related to operations management, logistics, project leadership, and/or sustainability
